Technology through the ages for Cartography

For my first post I thought I would talk about how map making has changed since the first map til the maps we make today. Map making technology has had to change to meet the needs of the new cartographers of the era. First maps had to be created by using brushes and paper. This made it hard to make multiple copies, also the earlier maps were not that accurate. When the compass came around, it made future map far more accurate. The printing press was a big part in map making, it helped make mass production of maps. Land surveying  was help with the the telescope and also the sextant, with these the map makers could find the latitude by measuring the angles. Also another technology that was used was photochemical technology, which helps shorten the time it takes to remake and reproduce a map.

When the 20th century rolled around, computers took over with making the maps. With the help of image processing and database management, maps have greatly improved from its earlier counterparts. New software like CAD and GIS make changing details in a map much easier. This leads to real time mapping which is used a lot now a days. So in conclusion, the technique and technology has rapidly changed from the beginning of the first map to now, and it is always changing
